A popular perennial with smooth, 3-5 ft. stems and long-lasting, lavender flowers. An attractive perennial with purple drooping rays surrounding a spiny, brownish central disk. Forms clumps that slowly spread over time. A must have for wildflower, native, and rain gardens. Does well as a formal garden planting. Valuable pollinator plant, versatile and widely used. Tolerant of drought but does well in a wide variety of soils. Great companion to Rudebeckia (Black Eyed-Susan) species.
